It’s time to put that chilly margarita on ice for a few months, it’s the season to indulge in warm cocktails — beverages that will raise the temperature from your fingertips, down to your very soul.
The list of cold weather cocktails is endless.
Here are a few recipes for making delicious and easy winter cocktails:
Spicy Old Fashioned
A traditional Old Fashioned has always been the perfect drink for a chilly, winter night, but add a bit of spice to the mix, and it will be coming at you on a whole new level. Although this drink is served chilled, the bourbon will definitely warm you regardless.
To prepare this in a snap here’s all you need:
- Take a cup of water, a cup of sugar, a star of anise, and a cinnamon stick, and simmer together in a pan on the stove until the sugar has completely melted. Let the mixture cool, then put in the refrigerator for about an hour.
- After your mixture is chilled, take an orange wedge and a maraschino cherry and place one each on the bottom of 4 cocktail glasses.
- Then, put the chilled mixture, some ice, and 12 ounces of bourbon into a shaker and mix. When you’re ready to serve, strain into the glasses and garnish with individual cinnamon sticks. Awesome!
Hot Buttered Rum
It’s not just for sore throats, although many swear by the age-old remedy. Delicious, festive, and sure to warm your heart, here’s a quick, make at home version you’re just going to love:
Place 1 ½ teaspoons butter, with 1 tablespoon brown sugar, and 1 ½ teaspoon powdered confectioner sugar into a mug. Add a pinch of ground cinnamon and nutmeg, a couple spoonfuls of quality vanilla ice cream, and 1 ½ oz of dark rum. Combine the ingredients with a fork. Afterward, fill the mug with boiling water, sprinkle with nutmeg, and serve while it’s still piping hot.
Easy Tom and Jerry
Here’s a version of a traditional (dating back to the 1800’s) winter and holiday cocktail that was likely your parent’s, and even your grandparents, favorite. And there’s a reason it’s been around so long — it’s delicious! While a bit nostalgic in nature, this cocktail never fails to warm you with a special winter glow.
If you want to enjoy this one at home, but don’t want to make the batter from scratch, here’s a quick and easy version:
Heat your favorite eggnog and pour into a mug, stir in a shot of cognac and brandy, then sprinkle with freshly ground nutmeg and cinnamon. Deliciousness made easily!
Simple Is Sometimes Best
Just take a steaming mug of freshly made after dinner coffee, add a splash of cognac, brandy, or Kahlua, put some whipping cream on top, and, well… what can honestly be better?
Hot Cocoa Cocktail:
Prepare your favorite version of hot cocoa, (made with whole milk is always best) add a bit of brandy, or Peppermint Schnapps, or Bailey’s Irish Cream. Then, top with some whipped cream, and garnish with a cinnamon stick.
Either way, coffee or cocoa, with your alcohol of choice you’ve got the easiest winter cocktails around. Besides being simple, they’re absolutely incredible. We promise.
